Who Am I?

life in france 1

I’m Maryam, familiarly known as Yums—the writer, founder and owner of Yumsitchyfeet.

Being able to work as a freelance travel writer and earn from any location in the world has changed my life.

I used to think that becoming a full-time travel writer was only a dream, but now I am living it and IN LOVE with what I am doing.

Join me as I discover ways to make money by travel writing while living my life to the fullest and exploring different destinations around the world.

If I can chase mine, you can do the same too!

My Story

I have been living between two cultures, the Malaysian culture and the French culture, since 2011.

Started Yumsicthyfeet to document life in France, the life of a Franco-Malaisienne.

I want to share the love I have for pastries or those crispy, freshly baked croissants, the endless beauty of Calanques, or how to enjoy life the way French people do!

Throughout my stay in France and travelling in Europe, I found the love of turning my life chapters into little stories using words. That’s when I went ahead into travel writing and never looked back.

But what made me take the leap of faith?…

Life Between Croissants & Teh Tarik

A brief on life in France.

From living in a small studio of Cité Universitaire de Cuques in Aix to surviving engineering school with one whole bunch of smart-ass people in La Garde Toulon, to being an intern in the most significant nuclear site ITER in Saint Paul Lez Durance, and to chasing the dreamy French life in Paris

I learned how to adapt faster to the local culture as time passed. I’ve learned the beauty of living like a French, the art of complaining, applying the ‘Je ne sais quoi’ in my daily conversations, and saying ‘oh là là’ in different notations depending on different situations.

By living in France and travelling, there are many things worth documenting, experiences that deserve to be shared with others, and places that have to be shown to the world!

This is a place where I will share my stories, adventures, and life lessons that I’ve picked up along the way as I grew up in a strange, uncommon land, which is also a place that I call my kampung (my second home).

Life In France

Graduated and worked as an engineer. I loved my job and wouldn’t trade any of the experiences for something else.

Being white-collar who worked 9-5 every day, some days were flexible and fun; some days were lengthy and tiring. I don’t feel the happiness of doing it.

Deep down, I have always wanted to pursue my pathway into travel writing, but I never actually had the chance to do so.

I wish I could just travel around the world and work remotely.

But I didn’t know how…

So, I started taking classes on freelance travel writing, improving my writing skills, going for coaching sessions and taking my time working on it.

And I finally made my first earnings as a writer! <3

That was when I promised myself that I would go for it.

Yumsitchyfeet started as a travel blog focusing on French life stories and travel guides. Now, it is so much more than just exploring unbeaten paths in France or tips for surviving French culture.

It has become more than that.

I love going on local encounters around the world, saying yes to unusual activities, and also sharing with you the once-in-a-lifetime experience you should take advantage of!
